Glass-Lined Reactor Engineering

Built Around the Process

GLP translates operating conditions, process duty and equipment interfaces into a reviewable engineering basis before manufacturing.

The objective is to define what the equipment must do before finalizing how it should be configured.

Engineering Basis

Define what the equipment must do before finalizing its configuration.

Glass-lined reactor engineering begins by defining the working medium, capacity, temperature, pressure / vacuum, mixing duty, heat-transfer requirement, access conditions and process connections.

  • Working Medium
  • Capacity
  • Temperature
  • Pressure / Vacuum
  • Mixing Duty
  • Heat-Transfer Requirement
  • Access
  • Process Connections
Engineering Inputs

The equipment conversation starts with defined inputs.

Four input groups establish the information needed for a useful engineering review.

01

Working Medium

Identify the service medium and known corrosion, contamination or material-compatibility conditions.

02

Operating Conditions

Record operating temperature, pressure / vacuum and other service conditions that affect the vessel.

03

Capacity & Process Duty

Define working and total capacity together with reaction, storage, mixing or temperature-control duty.

04

Interfaces & Access

Set process connections, access points, supports, utilities and maintenance requirements.

Equipment Configuration

Translate defined inputs into equipment decisions.

The configuration review identifies the vessel arrangement and the interfaces that must remain coordinated through production.

  1. 01

    Reactor / Vessel Configuration

Define the appropriate vessel arrangement for the stated process duty.

  2. 02

    Working & Total Capacity Basis

Separate usable working volume from total vessel volume.

  3. 03

    Nozzle & Service-Interface Arrangement

Coordinate process connections, utilities and major interfaces.

  4. 04

    Access, Support & Maintenance Requirements

Account for access, support conditions and future maintenance needs.

Agitation Engineering

Mixing is part of the vessel engineering.

Agitation is not simply an accessory attached to the vessel. The mixing objective, product behaviour and required agitator arrangement must be coordinated with the drive, vessel interface and maintenance access.

Mixing Objective
Product Behaviour
Drive / Vessel Interface
Maintenance Access
Heat-Transfer Basis

Define the thermal duty and utility connections.

Heat-transfer engineering focuses on the process temperature requirement, heating or cooling duty, vessel heat-transfer arrangement and coordination of utility connections.

Engineering Review Questions

Three questions keep the review focused.

What Must the Vessel Contain?

Medium, corrosion conditions, temperature and pressure.

What Must Happen Inside?

Reaction, mixing, storage and temperature-control duty.

How Must It Connect?

Nozzles, supports, access, utilities and process interfaces.

Engineering Across the Equipment Package

One engineering basis across connected equipment.

01

Reactors

Define reaction vessel arrangement and service interfaces.

02

Vessels

Coordinate storage, receiving and transfer requirements.

Reviewable Engineering Outputs

What the customer can review before manufacturing.

These outputs provide a clear technical basis for confirmation before the agreed information moves into production.

General Arrangement

Geometry, orientation, supports and major interfaces.

Manufacturing Release Basis

Agreed technical information carried into production.

Engineering Workflow

From defined conditions to manufacturing release.

01

Define Conditions

Set the service and process inputs.

02

Build Equipment Basis

Translate inputs into a vessel basis.

03

Review Interfaces

Check nozzles, utilities and access.

04

Confirm Documentation

Review the agreed technical information.

05

Release for Manufacturing

Carry the confirmed basis into production.

Engineering FAQ

Questions before equipment release.

What information is needed to start glass lined reactor engineering?

Start with the working medium, capacity, operating temperature, pressure / vacuum and process duty. Available drawings or interface requirements are also useful.

Is agitator selection part of the reactor engineering process?

Yes. The mixing objective, product behaviour, agitator arrangement, drive and vessel interface should be considered together.

When are drawings prepared?

Drawings are prepared after the relevant equipment basis, interfaces and available project information have been defined for review.
